Book Corner: When the World Seems to Exhale

Welcome to the very first Book Corner.
I'll be sharing a short extract from Between the Trails, alongside a personal reflection. My hope is that these moments encourage you to slow down, reconnect with nature, and perhaps see something familiar.
From Between the Trails
"There's a moment at the start of almost every walk when the world seems to exhale. The car door shuts, the boots go on, and the quiet begins. It's not silence exactly—there's always a hum of life—but a different kind of sound, one that asks nothing of you. The hills don't care about your to-do list or the emails waiting at home. They just wait."
Reflection
I still find this so true every time I'm outdoors.
Before I've even taken a step on the trail, something begins to change. Just simply closing the car door, getting my boots on, and leaving the rush behind provides a gentle shift. The emails, the washing, all the lists—they're all still there, but for a little while they don't get my attention.
Nature can remind us that not everything needs to happen at once.
As an OT, I encourage people to reconnect with their meaningful activities. But, as many of us do, often forget to practice what I preach. I've learned that we don't need to do more— we need opportunity to simply be.
That's what I hope Life Between the Trails offers too. Whether it's through a wellbeing session, a family walk, or reading these reflections, I hope that you'll discover your own moment when the world seems to exhale.
A Gentle Invitation
The next time you head outside, don't rush.
Before you begin walking, pause for a moment.
Notice the sounds around you.
Take one slow breath.
Thank you for reading.
