A Poem for Grounding and Healing

ree

In the rush of daily life, it’s easy to feel disconnected — from ourselves, from stillness, from the natural world that patiently waits just outside our door. I am guilty of letting this rush take over. Sometimes, the simplest way back to calm is through a walk in nature, where everything reminds us to slow down. Getting back into this mindset and routine, really helps me and I think many will agree.

I used to write poems years ago in my spare time, but as I got older and busier, I seemed to lose my will and imagination to continue. So... I thought I'd have a go and share with you.

I wrote Nature’s Remedy as a personal reflection — to remind us to pause, to notice, and to let this experience reduce the weight we carry. I imagined myself on one of my walks, when I am taking myself through grounding strategies, actively attending to my senses and experiencing the present — the feeling of relief and comfort afterwards.

Whether you read it at your desk or on a break, I hope it offers a moment of stillness.

Let me know what you think of it! Does it resonate with you? How did it make you feel? Have you written any poems?

Nature’s Remedy

Take a breath, deep and long.

Tell yourself you are strong.

Leave behind the dark cloud;

Step into the sunlight, proud.

Take one step, then the next,

And keep the rhythm, feel muscles flex.

Focus on life around you —

As you take the time to

Listen, look, and feel.

A chorus of birdsong surrounds,

Soaring, gliding above —

Like dancers drawn to melody,

Sweeping through skies of love.

Their song becomes the silent prompt

For branches swayed and bowed,

As if the trees would dance

Beneath the drifting cloud.

Footsteps crunch on gravel, then soften through spongy grass.

Movement feels deep through the body.

The fresh smell of cut grass, wildflowers,

As the breeze brushes your face —

Cool, light — nature’s caress to calm.

The sun’s warm touch, a quiet hug,

A relief that lessens the bitterness of stress.

Ahead, a blanket of bluebells spreads —

Nature’s gift to the eyes,

Welcoming all who pass to stop,

To admire,

To enter.

A path, an open door

To distant plains and breath-taking views.

Colours glisten — green, yellow, blue;

Sunlight dancing.

Sit.

Notice.

Each sense, each breath, each muscle.

Let the beauty of nature heal you.

Breathe in...

Out...

Deep...

Slow...

Grounded, relaxed —

Stress softening,

Dark clouds lifting.

Peaceful.

Present.

Rest...

Ready...

Healing...

The power of nature — humbling.
