Bank Holiday Bliss at Haddon Grove Farm Campsite – Derbyshire Adventures with the Family

Over the bank holiday weekend, we packed up our camper van, loaded the tents, and set off for a few days under the stars at Haddon Grove Farm Campsite in beautiful Derbyshire with our family. Just a short drive from home, it felt like we were miles away from the everyday rush, tucked in the rolling hills with views that made you stop and soak it all in.

Our Little Home from Home

We had our trusty camper van with us and pitched two tents alongside for the rest of the family, creating our cosy family camp setup. One of the lovely features of this site is the option to hire a fire pit – which we did, of course! Nothing beats the warmth of the flames as the stars come out and a toasty marshmallow!

There’s a real community feel at Haddon Grove. Throughout the weekend, visiting vendors popped by the site – a breakfast van, Wood-Fired Pizza, and they've just introduced a Milkshake Vendor! It added such a fun buzz and meant there was always something to nibble or sip. The showers were free and clean (always a bonus when camping with little ones!).

Friday Evening: A Calm Start

We arrived on Friday to a warm welcome and a relaxed atmosphere. After setting up, we tucked into our pre-prepared chilli con carne – easy, tasty and perfect for that first night when no one really wants to cook. Then we simply sat around, chatted, and let the pace slow right down.

Saturday: Big Hike, Big Views

After a hearty fry-up breakfast, we laced up our boots for a hike right from the campsite. There are so many walks nearby, and the one we chose took us through breath taking views and winding paths – Derbyshire really does shine in spring.

With picnics packed, waterproofs at the ready, and plenty of snacks and drinks, we set off. The kids were amazing – our little adventurers covered 10km, and even our 3-year-old niece managed an impressive 6km! We kept the energy up with praise, games, and lots of "1-word story" fun, where each person adds one word at a time to make a silly tale – cue lots of giggles.

Sunday: Bakewell Delights

We gave our legs a rest on Sunday with a gentle stroll around Bakewell. It’s such a charming town with old stone bridges, riverside views, and of course, the famous Bakewell tart (which we enjoyed alongside some warm pasties during our picnic). A lovely, slower-paced day filled with good food and even better company.

Monday: Campsite Rhythms & Chatsworth Charm

Monday came too soon, and we packed up in our usual rhythmic, well-practised way – everyone chipping in. The kids even helped Grandma with the washing up, learning the little routines that make camping feel like home.

Before heading back, we made the most of the day with a visit to the stunning Chatsworth House. Dogs are welcome in the gardens, so we enjoyed another scenic wander. The petting farm and adventure park were brilliant – a real hit with the kids!

The Joy of the Outdoors

There’s something truly grounding about time in nature, especially with the people you love. The fresh air, open skies, and simple joys of campfire chats, shared walks, and family games. This weekend was restful, refreshing, and full of laughter – exactly what we needed.

We came home feeling grateful, a little muddy, and very happy. Until the next adventure…
